PLEASE, PLEASE....
REMEMBER TO TALLY YOUR DESK TRANSACTIONS..
IT's STATS WEEK - March 23-29!
This is very important for our monthly report - so be conscientious.
(Also, it is a separate sheet from the $$$$$ one - use both this week).
Thanks,
Sarah

Another way to look up patron accounts...
Sometimes you need to look up a patron's account in Millennium, and you just can't seem to find the person you're looking for. They might have a completely unique first name, but since Millennium always looks for the last name, that doesn't help. Wouldn't you love to be able to search by their first name, their middle name, or even their kid's name? What I've done is to export the contents of a Millennium List called "tlw patrons" and leave a copy on the desktop of the circulation and reference desk computers. Its just a big old .txt file that opens with a program called Notepad. Use the Ctl-f key to open up a search box. When you find the patron, simply copy and paste their barcode number directly into Millennium and open the account.
Feel free to help keep the list and the export file up to date. Andy

Not Broken, just temperamental...
Our receipt printer is not broken, it just has a sensitivity problem. There is a sensor switch inside the printer that detects the presence of the paper roll. The roll must be slid over to the right side in order to properly contact the sensor switch. It looks like some of the rolls are smaller than the others (from side to side) and so to make a short roll work properly I folded up a piece of scrap paper and slipped it in on the left side of the roll. I guess about 90% of the time that I have had an error message from the receipt printer it is because of this problem. Andy.

NEW: CASH DRAWER RECEIPTS TALLY SHEET
A New and Improved Tally Sheet for the Cash Drawer Receipts will be here Monday, March 16th. Same sheet for upstairs and downstairs desks, much easier to use.
This will improve our ability to track $$ for the budget.
ALSO: please note: when taking in a check, write on it what it is for....
and it is NOT necessary to write down (tally) for B&W copies/prints or anything tracked in Millenium (fines/lost&paid)
When we track REFERENCE STATISTICS once a week/once a month, we will use a totally different sheet. So for that one week, we'll have two sheets..one for $$ one for REFERENCE.
Questions?
Let me know....

Cool Feature within NY Times Articles!
While you are reading the NY you can actualy doble click in the word that you don't have any idea about its meaning, and it will show up an interrogation mark. Click in the interrogation mark and you will have the meaning of the word. It is like having a dictionary just right there with you, without the need to go and search for the word in another dictionary.
